Overview

The VP Finance is responsible for the overall development of the Financial function of Sunwave as well as advising the financial implications of contracts the firm may enter.

He or she implements processes and systems for AR, AP, Payroll, Reporting etc, ensuring high levels of efficiency and accountability as the organization grows - the foundation for scaling the company. At the outset the role is very hands on, taking over accounting functions the founding team has carried until now.

With the management team, the VP Finance develops hands-on financial planning for the funding of current operations and expansion. He or she will help identify and develop opportunities to maximize revenues and properly manage expenditures.

The VP Finance proactively communicates and develops positive relationships with external partners: banks, PE investors, and independent auditors.

Job Description - Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for managing the financial and accounting processes of the Company to include the timely production of clean and accurate monthly financial statements that are GAAP compliant and housed in Quickbooks. Develop an auditable monthly closing process that enhances quality of reporting.

  • Collaborating with the rest of the management team, lead/build the annual bottoms-up budgeting process that results in forward looking financial statements and key operating metrics.

  • Drive meaningful variance analysis of financial results as a whole and by department on a monthly cadence: Compare actual results to plans and prior results/trends. Recommend alternatives and work closely with others to take action on key issues.

  • Produce latest-thinking financial and cash flow forecasts throughout the year and work closely with sales and marketing on top line forecasting.

  • Support Sales as customer contracts are negotiated.

  • With the management team, develop sales compensation plans, and assist with sales operations as the company grows

  • Recommend changes to systems or processes that will contribute to the operational efficiency of the business and support rapid scale. You’ll do this by first starting very hands on to see how the baseline of AR, AP etc works, then develop accounting processes and related support for success.

  • Establish/revisit internal controls to reduce the risk of material misstatements and enhance cash management.

  • Oversee certain HR payroll and benefits management items.

  • Manage the annual audit process and communicate with auditors during the year to ensure a smooth audit.

  • Manage the preparation of quarterly Board presenations and reporting to PE sponsor. Represent the organization with its PE Sponsors, outside auditors/accountants, vendors, and banks

  • Success leading Finance, scaling a PE-sponsored, fast growth SaaS company with attention to applicable SaaS metrics, both hands on in the beginning and a combination of hands on and team leadership as the organization grows

  • The foundation of your success is your proactive, right-level, transparent communication style; you provide and present the appropriate level of detail or summary information and recommendations that are critical to this specific business/industry and are easily understood

  • Point person for efficient, clean external audits

  • Success and enjoyment hiring and developing great accounting teams, balancing hands on work when needed

  • Demonstrated proactive, “go to” accounting, financial and business planning and analysis driver - thoughtful approach to providing timely, accurate support for key operating decisions; excellent ability to communicate to the team the impacts of alternative courses of action

  • Success anticipating Finance or other business issues, developing solutions, and carrying them to results

Education/Other

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Economics, Accounting, Finance or related field

  • CPA a plus
